Description of the project

The Erasmus+ Programme

Erasmus+ is the EU programme in the fields of education, training, youth and sport for the period 2014-2020. Erasmus + has a budget of EUR 14.7 billion over 7 years, reflecting the commitment to invest in these areas, above all in terms of skills development and the employability of young people. Erasmus+ provides opportunities for more than 4 million Europeans to study, train and gain work experience and perform volunteer work abroad, supporting cooperation and the development of partnerships between European institutions and other parts of the world.

The MARE NOSTRUM Partnership

The MARE NOSTRUM (MN) project, coordinated by Universidade do Algarve in the framework of the European Programmeme Erasmus+ – Key Action 1 International Credit Mobility (reference 2018-1-PT01-KA107-047099), supports mobility of students, academic and administrative staff from institutions in Portugal and 7 partners, in both directions, IN and OUT.

The MARE NOSTRUM consortium is based on institutional trust, founded on the excellent cooperation links developed among its partners during the last years. The Mare Nostrum is built on a strong cooperation, connecting Portugal’s North and South and bringing together some of the best practices that our Country has to offer. The sharing of common ideas and priorities for international development coined the decision to present this new consortium.

The Portuguese Higher Education Institutions that joined to form this consortium are:

UAlg Universidade do Algarve Coordinator
UNL Universidade Nova de Lisboa Partner
UEVORA Universidade de Évora Partner
UPORTO Universidade do Porto Partner

Through a total of 29 scholarships, the Mare Nostrum supports mobility of students, academic and administrative staff in Europe and in South Mediterranean and Western Balkans countries. The main goals of the MN are to:

  • reinforce the (inter)national cooperation of the involved institutions, thus contributing to the fulfilment of the HEIs’ mission;
  • provide students with new mobility opportunities that may contribute to their academic growth, thus allowing them to benefit from an international experience beyond the “standard destinations”;
  • improve students’ knowledge and enhancing their capacities and skills, thus positively contributing to their employability in the near future;
  • bring more awareness to the staff (academic and administrative) on the importance of the international cooperation beyond the European borders so as to allow a closer and better understanding of the partner institutions.

Mare Nostrum has 29 scholarships/grants:

  • 2 scholarships for students;
